punches and pop dots

one of my favorite things to do to accent my pages that doesnt cost a lot of money (once you have the tools) is to punch out bits of patterned paper already used on my page and use it as an accent with a little help from pop dots :)

I wanted to share a couple examples here. This technique seems to be showing up a lot on my pages lately...

favorite color combos

hello everyone! Im excited for my week of blog posts! After a little bit of time without scrapbooking, Im happy to jump back in!

I find that when I havent scrapbooked lately, the easiest way for me to jump back in is to rely on some of my favorite color combos, and I would like to share two of those here...

first up, red and aqua...one of my tried and true color combos

Jumpstart your Journaling: Day 5

Today's the last day of "Jumpstart your Journaling." So for today's prompt, I am sharing something I've seen folks do on their blogs that I think is cool and would be neat to incorporate on a layout:

Answer the following questions on random days and scrap it!

• making
• drinking 
• wondering 
• wearing
• obsessing 
• listening
• printing 
• wishing

You can find a lot of "currents" that you have on your blog as well if you have a blog. A blog is not only a great way to share inspiration, work and keep in touch with relatives - it's also a great journaling tool. Lots of times I will use a bit of something I blogged about and create a layout about it. Blogging is often easier than creating a scrapbook page RIGHT THEN and so it's good to jot down the memories, story, etc. and then go back to it and scrap a page.

Jumpstart your Journaling: Day 4

Today's "Jumpstart your Journaling" prompt is:

Quotes can be VERY handy when it comes to scrapbooking. Some of my favorite layouts came about because of a quote that I loved. Just find some quotes online, look through some quotation books or even use a quote of something funny your child has said and create a layout around that! It's easy, fast and fun!

Jumpstart your Journaling: Day 3

Hi again! Today's journaling prompt can be used a number of ways. Why not do a layout (or five) about:

You can do:

• Ten reasons why you love your significant other
• Ten reasons why you love your career
• Ten reasons why you love your child(ren) - you can do a separate layout for each
• Ten reasons why you love living in the state (our country) you live in
• Ten reasons why you love road trips
• Ten reasons why cupcakes are your favorite dessert ;)
• Ten reasons why you love to scrapbook

I could go on and on. Just start with "Ten reasons why" and then plug in something else there and get to it! You'll be coming up with great layouts ideas in no time!

Jumpstart your Journaling: Day 2

Today's journaling prompt is:

Using the interview style of journaling is a super fun way to jot down journaling on your kids' layouts! So take a few minutes today and interview your kids and then use their answers to your questions on a layout!

• Favorite color?
• Favorite thing to do?
• Favorite song?
• Favorite thing to play on at the park?
• Favorite book?
• Favorite sport?
• Best friend?
• Favorite dinner that your Mom makes?
• Favorite gift you have received?
• Favorite toy right now?
• What do you love about your Mom? Dad? Sibling?

The questions are endless! Just have fun and just write down whatever your child says! You're sure to get some sweet, funny and serious answers, too! Maybe ask your kids the same questions every year and they can look back on them once they are older and see what they said.

Jumpstart your Journaling: Day 1

Hi there folks! This week is my week to host over here at the awesome AMLT blog. I thought that since Susanna did such a cool job last week giving us all so many cool photo prompts that I would use this week to give you all some great ideas for journaling! The cool thing about journaling is that sometimes you can base a whole layout around what you want to say instead of a photograph you might have AND journaling really helps tell the story of your layout. I hope you find these journaling prompts very helpful this week! If you create a layout using one of these journaling prompts - post it over at the AMLT Facebook page HERE. Today's first Jumpstart your Journaling prompt is this:

Often times if you have a family and children YOU get left out of your scrapbook albums and the amount of layouts that you create that are just about YOU are very few. Don't think that just because you're a Mom now that all of your layouts should be about your kids - don't you think your kids would love to see lots of layouts about the things you loved back in the day when everyone is going through the countless scrapbooks and reminiscing? Of course they would! So be sure to take some time to get down some of things about what you love, the things you're into, what makes you YOU throughout the years. Also, handwrite your journaling on your layouts. That's just one more way you can personal the layouts you create about yourself and it gives your children a little piece of your history.

Here are some questions you can answer in some layouts about YOU:

• If you could pass on a piece of advice that meant a lot to you when you received it, what would it be?
• Your 10 greatest joys
• What five relationships have had the greatest impact on your life?
• List the jobs you've had during your life.
• Use five adjectives to describe yourself, expand on each one.
• Who do you miss the most from your past?
• What are your favorite sounds?

List making is another great way to create a layout about yourself. Why not every year on your birthday you make a list of things that you've learned that year of things that you've done, etc. for the amount of years old that you are?

No matter what you choose to create a layout about - just make sure you take some time to create some about YOU. You'll be glad you did and your children will be, too!

Drives me batty to come home from work and find that the teen has left not only her mug on the table, but trash and crumbs on the counter.. as it would have taken her all of 20 seconds to clean it up.. if even that  :)

Step into the photo yourself!

It is so easy to hide behind the camera... be brave and either give the camera to someone else or do what I did... I set my camera down on a box, set in on self-timer, focused on the planter and stepped in :)
