2010 Top Tens

One of my favorite things to do as the old year winds down is read everyone's "Top Ten" lists.  Top Ten Movies, Top Ten Books, Top Ten Bestselling Techie Toys - half the fun is seeing if I agree with them.

I thought it would be fun to list my Top Ten Scrapbooking Collections list for the year - I had to work hard to narrow it down to just ten collections, and limited myself to just one collection per company to make it fair.

Hello Friends!

Are you still out there?  It's been an eternity since I've taken a turn to post, I've missed you, and I think I've forgotten how to write in a blog.  I've become quite the facebook junkie, it's simple for me, who would have thought?  Thanks to the team for some amazing ideas this month, I still read, I just never write!  

Hope you've all enjoyed your holidays!  You now should have bazillions of pictures to scrap!  Which is a good mix because we feel like we have bazillions of items that we need to clear out of this store!  I'm going to use this post to start my "what was just added to super duper steals and deals *aka specials* section.  If you like deals bookmark this page, I'll keep adding to it! I also am keeping a running list each time I add something on our facebook page, but I do realize that many of you don't facebook, and/ or you have SOOOOO many friends you may never see my post.  I don't have to worry about the later :).

winter photos

It seems that so many photos are taken this time of year and I know that there are so many ideas out there for things to do with your holiday photos, so I wanted to give you an idea for a page using winter/snow photos. I live in California, so there isnt that much snow here and we have to drive about an hour to play in the snow, so for us its a pretty big deal!

You got pretty cards in the mail.. now what?

Now I know there are people who like to keep all the lovely Christmas cards they get from friends and family. Sure, I'll save a few amazing handmade ones, or the ones with a family photo.. but how about those generic cards?

Before the holidays I got out some cards from last year, a piece of thick cardstock (which I cut into a wreath shape),  my circle punch and went to town :D

 
 
I ended up with a pretty wreath that brightened our teachers' room all December.

Simple, but sweet ornaments

Merry Christmas Eve to you all!

I have just a few little simple, but sweet ornaments to share with you today. I have oodles and oodles of Christmas themed scrapbooking supplies and this little snowman stickers from Doodlebug are just so stinkin' cute that they were calling to be used so I turned them into little ornaments for my daughter's small Christmas tree in her room.

  [Cardstock: American Crafts and Bazzill; Stickers: Doodlebug; Twine: The Twinery; Misc: Slice machine and white ribbon]

All I needed was some cardstock, the stickers, some ribbon, some twine and I used my Slice, to cut the shapes, but you could easily use some punches!

I made them colorful and fun and they were so simple and sweet to make - my daughter even helped me make them!

So today (or next year even) pull out some Christmas themed scrapbooking goodies and make some simple cardstock ornaments for your tree!

Oh, and these would even be super cute cupcake toppers if you didn't punch the hole in them, etc! Just stick a toothpick on the back of them with a glue dot, add another scallop shape on the back to cover up the toothpick and then stick them in a holiday cupcake or make a different theme for birthdays, baby showers, etc!

Ornaments Pt 2

My craftroom has been a busy place this month!  I love to make ornaments for my own tree, as well as for gifts and have been able to turn out quite a few in a short time.

I've been playing with Scrabble tiles this year, and have made several projects using them mixed up with some of my favorite scrapbook company's products.  My favorite one is this simple gift box that got a custom makeover that now will do double duty as both a gift holder and an ornament.

I used Echo Park's "Everybody Loves Christmas" collection papers and that wonderful, whimsical Santa sticker.  It was quick and easy, and I love the way it turned out!

Ornaments

Today I am sharing some ornaments that I decorated using my scrapbooking supplies.

They started out looking like this:

On this one I used some KI Memories diecut paper and sprayed over it with Mr. Huey mist in white:

And on this I did the same thing but used a snowflake cut from my Slice machine:

Super easy!

Hip Hip Hooray! It's Friday!

 
It's the end of the week! Is anyone excited about that?!? I just realized that I forgot to post a little entry yesterday that I was planning, so this will have not one Christmas gift idea, but TWO! Better bang for your buck for checking the blog today ;)

All teasing aside, I have a similar idea to what Katie had on Wednesday (didn't you just love her decorated pretzel gift?!? Way too cute!). I actually posted this last year, but I made a few more this year and thought I would post about it again.
These are icing containers (Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, etc) which are PERFECT for decorating because they are cylinder which means you can cut a 3 1/2" strip of paper and just wrap it around the container. Cut a circle from patterned paper for the top and you have a super cute container to hold all your favourite Christmas goodies.

 
I went a little further and decorated these with some diecuts from My Mind's Eye and American Crafts. I also bought some little ornaments from the dollar store to add to the one container.

 
Anyone hungry yet? I LOVE sugar cookies. mmmmmmm.

Okay, on to my other Christmas gift idea. I made a bragbook for Grandma (or Oma as we would call her) of her 16 grandchildren (2 more on the way!). I started with this awesome album from 7gypsies...
It is a foldable album with 3 smaller inserts attached on the insides.

 
I used mostly papers from Scenic Route, the My Family collection. LOVE the green , blue,  red combo and it works for boys and girls, so that was perfect.

This is the back of the album which you can flip over and decorate the back pages as well.

And this is a different perspective so you can see how the inserts are attached, two on the front side and one on the back. Very cool. I am sure that she will love it! Check out the AMLT store for similar great finds that you can decorate for any occasion!

Dressing up store bought gifts with your scrapbooking supplies

Hi Everyone...Katie here! Today I want to bring you some inspiration for dressing up a store bought gift with your scrapbooking supplies to make it a little more personal. Last year a friend of mind made my family some chocolate covered pretzels for the holidays and they were so yummy! I wanted to do the same but I am a little kitchen challenged so I bought these at Target:

They look yummy but that packaging is a little boring! So I gathered some of my yummy Crate Paper Snow Day Suppiles and voila:

Much cuter I think!

Christmas gifts.

 

Some people are more fun to give homemade gifts than others. Those are the ones that say "Thank you!" and you see in their eyes that they mean it, those are the ones that keep your homemade Christmas greeting on their fridge all year 'round because they like it so much and those are the ones that ask you how you did... Here are a couple of frugal gift suggestions for the people around you that deserve your handy work!

 

I love gift tags. Buy someone's favorite candy, put it in a jar with a lid, cover with some beautiful material and tie a ribbon with a homemade gift tag around it.

Put your children to work! This amazing crèche was made by our now 14-year-old son when he was six. I couldn't give it away (that was the plan at that time), but I know for sure that the grandparents would have loved getting it.
