Hello Everyone,
Today's post is dedicated to answering some of your questions posted awhile back on one of our contests. The DT already took their turn, and these are ones that required my attention :)
1. what got you into this business? did you want to work @ home or for another reason?
Oh boy... it's hard to remember that far back. There are really alot of reasons that ended up being the reason, but I have to tell you I didn't set out to start a business. My first motivation was really to build my own stash. I told you I was addicted! I have Making Memories to blame! Remember the ribbon charms/ ribbon / rubons release WAYYYYYYY back then? I wanted them all. We were really poor, and quite honestly I couldn't have them all. My SIL worked for a company with a wholesale account, and they let me get in on one of the orders. I decided to ebay the rest of the minimum 6 qty so I could have those.
Anyone that ebays will probably know it can be really addicting, and it took off from there. I went from a few listings to an ebay store, and then decided to go out on my own due to the space limitations and fees with ebay. You know the ironic thing? I never kept or scrapped with any of those items I bought to build my stash. I ended up selling them.
2. three most popular brands sold at amlt?
This is also a hard one, it depends on when you ask. Currently I would say the three most popular would be October Afternoon, Cosmo Cricket and third would be standoff between quite a few companies. Over the long haul I have always been able to count on AC, Basic Grey, Prima to name a few off the top of my head.
3. do you get excited when you open new boxes or has the excitement worn off?
I'll be honest. It's worn off. I hate saying that, but it has. It is still exciting to see items for the first time at show though. By the time I see it again in the store you have to remember it is the second time for me. I hope those days will come back when I am giddy to see a box on my porch!
4. what is your favorite color?
Turquoise, hands down!
5. what is your favorite "ME" time thing to do?
The only "ME" I do on a daily basis is a long hot soak in the tub. I however have decided the time has come to take me time and I am enjoying eating healthier and walking. Who would have ever think that would be fun? Not me, that is for sure, LOL, I've surprised myself!
6. how do you become a member of the design team?
We've had the same design team give an take a few girls for nearly 4-5 years now. When you become a member of the team here we won't let you leave without a fight-- right girls? Our team I consider a family, so that is a big requirement that we mesh and work well together.
However we really do have need to add a few more girls to our family. My girls will know I have been saying this for a really long time, but I do think the time is drawing near. Should you be interested I would say you become a stalker of our blog for info :).
7. what trends do you think we'll be seeing in the future?
Gosh, I have no idea. I think digital is becoming bigger than I would like! I'm always excited to see what's next.
8. what determines what you decide to carry @ amlt?
This is something that has also changed over time. In the beginning I carried only a few essentials, and then as we grew I could carry pretty much everything I thought would sell. Now I have to be more careful with the current state of things. I have to say that I hope I have a pretty good feel for what will sell, but I can't be sure of that ever. It's really just a combination of gut instinct and past history with certain companies and types of product.
9. if you have any dream come true for AMLT, what would you ask for?
I would hands down ask for a genie to come and clean up old inventory and put it on sale for me in a quick and timely fashion. That is such a tremendous undertaking working with the current software we use. It's a double edged sword as well as we don't want to move to a new system with all the older and non current items! If I could have a second dream it would be to survive for years and years. It's a hard industry right now, and a daily fight.
10. do you ever scrap for yourself and what's your fave subject to scrap?
Hardly ever, but my subject to scrap is always my 2 boys.
11. how do you find time to scrap? do you just have to make time?
I don't find time to scrap too often. I think I haven't tried to hard to make the time though, as there are always other family things that seem to come first when I'm not working. I have to be honest and say I'm a bit overwhelmed now at this point, I'm really behind and so I don't make time to start! HELP :)
12. what is your favorite thing about having an online scrapbooking store?
There are alot of great things, my first being that I have accomplished a dream I and proved to myself I could do it. A close second is the many people I have met world wide, that is such and amazing blessing. Working for myself and being my own boss is a favorite and a most unfavorite irnoically. Though I have to tell you sometimes I catch myself thinking it would be nice to go to a job with set hours with a reliable paycheck!
Ok.. that's it folks. Thanks so much to Rebekah for compiling this list for me, I may not have ever done it otherwise!!
